The Robin Shawl - Free Knitting Pattern
Robin Shawl
Part of our Secret Garden Read and Knit. Knit this basic triangle shawl if you've ever wished a friendly robin would lead you to a secret door that opens to a dilapidated garden just waiting for you to bring it back to life. Mine is a robin's egg blue - yours can be any color you'd like!
-2 - 3 Skeins Briggs and Little Heritage (215 yds 4oz)
-Size US 7 (4.5mm) straight or circular needles long enough to accommodate stitches
Be sure to give the finished product a thorough blocking!
Begin:
Cast on 6 stitches.
Row 1: Knit 3, yarn over, knit 3.
Row 2 (wrong side) : Knit 3, purl 1, knit 3
Row 3: Knit 3, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 3
Row 4 and all wrong side rows: Knit 3, purl to last 3 stitches, knit 3.
Row 5: Knit 3, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 3
Row 7: and all following right side rows: Knit 3, yarn over, knit to center stitch, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit to last 3 stitches, yarn over, knit 3
Note: you may mark the center and side stitches to keep track, but it should be fairly obvious to see where the yarn overs lead, and a stitch marker may interfere with your yarn overs.
Repeat rows 4 and 7 49 times more, OR until shawl measures desired length.
Picot Edge:
1: With right side facing, using the knitted cast-on method, cast on 2 stitches
2: Bind off 4 stitches
3: Move stitch from right hand needle onto the left hand needle
Repeat steps 1-3 until 1 stitch remains. Pull tail through final loop.
Sew the cast on edges together.
